Hello from the Bath County Farmers Market!
What will you find at the market this week? The
following is by no means an inclusive list of what you will find at the
market. Produce is influenced by a wide variety of factors: animals
(deer being the worst in our area!), insects, weather (farmers spend
half their time wishing it would rain and the other half wishing it
would stop), and time (time to sow- time to harvest- sometimes there
are just not enough hours in the day!). Some products... Continue reading ...

Hello from the Bath County Farmers Market!
Here
are a few messages from our vendors about a few of the items they will
have at the market on Saturday, July 11, 2009. Remember they are humble
people who will not tell you the beauty of the produce and other
products they bring to the market. Also what they bring to the market
also varies depending on the abundance of the harvest, weather, insects
and critter damage.
From Bruce Folks and Family:
I
should have lots of corn this week and ... Continue reading ...

Hello from the Bath County Farmers Market!
Yesterday evening Donna and I met at the market pavilion to talk
about upcoming “special” markets. What a gorgeous evening it was with
the birds singing, a cool breeze blowing, the mountains standing tall.
But it was the freshly baled hay still in the field behind the market
that said “summer here!” Having put up hay many times in my youth I
really appreciate the efficiency of round bales but more so not having
to be a part of putting ha... Continue reading ...

Have you ever thought about how the
farmer’s market community can work to improve the health of Bath County
children and families? Around the country there are innovative grass
roots initiatives that work to connect local food producers with
schools. Here are some examples to check out:
- The Vermont Food Education Every Day (VT FEED) program is
an example of an innovative community-based approach to school food
system change in a rural state. This program works through teams of
