Hello from the Bath County Farmer's Market!

October 11, 2009

Hello from the Bath County Farmers Market!

Here are a few messages from our vendors about a few of the items they will have at the market on Saturday, July 11, 2009. Remember they are humble people who will not tell you the beauty of the produce and other products they bring to the market. Also what they bring to the market also varies depending on the abundance of the harvest, weather, insects and critter damage.

From Bruce Folks and Family:
I should have lots of corn this week and I made Maple Granola from a recipe a customer from the market last week emailed me this week.   See you bright and early Saturday.  Bruce

Also from Bruce:  Baked goods; gorgeous cut flowers; produce; maple syrup and candies; and other fine items! His tables are always packed with delights from his gardens in Highland and Rockingham Counties !

From Cindy and Jerald Gray:

We will have some large brown eggs (about 8 dz) and some small ones (about 3 dz), then the onion sets and my husband makes wood plaques and we want to bring a few of those to sell. If all this is okay, we will see you early on Saturday morning. Have a great day.

From the “Farm to You” booth:

The “Lusk” — a local Gouda-style cheese — is back this week, along with the “Italian” blend (sun dried tomatoes and garlic), ”McClure” (baby Swiss style), and ”Marmac” a cheddar-style cheese.  All are made with milk from the dairy cows at Mountain View Farm in Fairfield . Coffee, anyone?  We’ll have a full range of blends, including Espresso, Italian, French Roast, Vienna and “City” – locally roasted (& fair trade organic) No more fresh strawberries?  Get the next best thingstrawberry jam from Fox Ridge Farm Local honey — quarts, pints and those cute little bear bottles (honey available with the comb as well) Produce may include red potatoes, green and yellow wax beans, Swiss chard; Kale, sweet white onions, Persian cucumbers (great for slicing), “Fairy Tale” eggplant & more! Goat milk soap, wrapped and ready to go as a fun hostess, thank you, or birthday gift — or just for yourself! Beautiful, handmade cheese and bread boards.  Pair a board and block of cheese for a delicious and functional gift!

If you are looking for special products and produce Tara is the person to ask!

We also expect:

The Buckhorn Inn with awesome pies, cakes, bread, cookies, date squares, candies, and if you haven’t had Sylvia make you a breakfast sandwich fresh on the spot you are missing a delicious start to your day!

DJ’s Whiteway Restaurant with pull-apart bread, rolls, pies, cakes, cookies, and BBQ pork to-go!

New Vendors arrive weekly as do musicians changing the sights, sounds, and tastes from the market!

See you at the market!
Harmony and Donna

Bath County Farmers Market week of 6/26/09

October 11, 2009
Hello from the Bath County Farmers Market!
Yesterday evening Donna and I met at the market pavilion to talk about upcoming “special” markets. What a gorgeous evening it was with the birds singing, a cool breeze blowing, the mountains standing tall. But it was the freshly baled hay still in the field behind the market that said “summer here!” Having put up hay many times in my youth I really appreciate the efficiency of round bales but more so not having to be a part of putting ha...
